Permanent makeup healing is a process — and results don’t happen overnight. Each person heals a little differently depending on skin type, aftercare, and the technique used, but here’s a general breakdown of what you can expect after your appointment:
Clean gently morning and night with a fragrance-free cleanser or distilled water for the first 7–10 days. Pat dry — do not rub.
Apply a thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor or the one provided) morning and night. The amount should be the size of a grain of rice per brow.
Oily skin types may heal better with dry healing (no ointment — just keep them clean and protected).
Lips will feel tight and dry immediately after. Apply healing ointment or Aquaphor several times daily for at least 14 days to prevent dryness and cracking.
Use a clean fingers or a q-tip every time to avoid contamination.
Avoid spicy foods, kissing, excessive rubbing, and anything that could irritate the area while healing.
If you have a history of cold sores, start antiviral medication before your appointment to prevent an outbreak.
No ointment necessary.
Avoid heavy cleansing, eye rubbing, mascara, or any eye creams for at least 10 days.
Splash water and a light lather of soap to cleanse — no rubbing.
The area will look bold, dark, and defined — this is normal.
Brows may appear sharp or overly saturated; lips may be swollen or tight; eyeliner may look thicker than expected.
Mild redness or tenderness is normal for the first 1–2 days.
The pigment will appear more intense before it begins to fade.
Expect flaking, peeling, and slight patchiness. This is your skin regenerating.
DO NOT pick or rub — let the flakes fall off naturally to avoid pigment loss or scarring.
The color may fade significantly and look too light or uneven at this stage.
It’s normal for brows to look like they’ve “disappeared” — this is just new skin covering the pigment temporarily.
Color will start to reappear and settle into the skin.
Lips may go through stages of being too dark, then too light, then finally settling into the right tone.
Brows and eyeliner may soften and become more natural-looking.
Full visible healing typically completes by week 4, but underlying layers of skin may still be healing.
The final healed result becomes visible around 6–8 weeks.
The pigment may appear slightly cooler or warmer depending on your skin undertones and how your body retained the color.
This is the best time to evaluate your results and decide if a touch-up is needed.
PMU pigment is not traditional makeup — it heals under the skin and softens over time.
Brows are pre-warmed to avoid turning ashy, grey, or blue as they fade.
Lips heal through a “too dark → too light → just right” cycle.
Results vary with skin type, oiliness, sun exposure, and aftercare — this is normal and expected.
Don’t judge the final result too early — wait the full 6–8 weeks.
Avoid harsh products, sweating, sun exposure, and exfoliants during healing.
Touch-ups are normal and often necessary for perfecting shape, color, and density.
Final results last 1–3 years, depending on your skin, routine, and pigment retention.
